Build #346

Another update towards to release of the Italy module.

Road dashes and Colour

Broken roads now have different dashes depending on the resource need to repair it. Dots and dashes distinguish them. There are only around 6 types, so not too hard to tell.

The colour of the broken road ranges from dark red (> 300t required) to pink (<20t required).

Broken Achievement Images

The in-game achievement images broke when the modular builds came out.
Regions that didn't have any industries to upgrade or roads to repair would never get completed images within the overall achievement graphic.
This has been repaired, so once you have a single town complete in that area the broken image will complete.

Tooltips and no Cicada

New tooltips have been added that will hover over all the different parts of the game popups.
Check them out, there might be something there to learn.
Also, if you think I should add a bit of information to any of them, let me know and that can be done.
You can turn them off in the settings and if you ever want to see them again, hold the control key down and mouse over the area so they pop up again.

Save game speed

A bit of work in this area to speed up the save process of saving your game.
More to come later.

Enjoy.

LOGistICAL: Italy

LOGistICAL: Italy will be available on the 22nd Aug 2017.

LOGistICAL: Italy is a complex beast adding some new stuff to LOGistICAL, including new town icons (ignore that this image is not properly placed when this screenshot was taken),

LOGistICAL: Italy has been co-designed with Marco Calcaterra (desangre), a local to the region. He not only placed all the industries, but also contributed to a nice complex puzzle using quarantine, islands and a north/south theme. He is now working on translating the game into Italian.

LOGistICAL: Italy creates a great thinking module, so relax and enjoy.

Build Update

There have been quite a few smaller fixes and builds since the LOGistICAL: British Isles release.

* Creation of "Global" contracts. First example is getting a 2x speedup after completing 50 towns. Now this exists as a global contract and is therefore available in all modules whether you are playing LOGistICAL, British Isles or Italy, etc.

* The map that has been fixed to not scroll beyond the "flat earth" boundaries, has been extended East/West so zooming doesn't drag the map to the left or right of the screen when playing on the outer edges (eg New Zealand and Hawaii).

* Green outlines and shading for the level 3 industries on the Industry and Build screens, so they stand out more.

* Mouse over popup on the build industries to include the size of the industry you are selecting to build, as you move your mouse up and down over the icon.

* Fix on NL to not show both appox and detailed outlines.

* Night/Day transition and texture maps optimised.

* Fix to stop the main globe from going green/blue screen if you click outside the globe.

* Town rarity column on the Statistical LOGistICAL popup (click the total trophies icon to the left of the money). This rarity value is a comparative of how many players have managed to gain that achievement.
This rarity value is from Steam so will only show what is available on whichever module you are playing.

* Load game sometimes doesn't show data. This tends to happen if you load quickly after closing the game and Steam is still in the process of synchronising the save game files. This can get slower if you have a large game and also if you have a huge list of games in your list.

LOGistICAL will create a new save game for you every day, but you are responsible for reducing the amount of games that exist in that list. You will need to use the delete button next to the copy and load buttons. If you try to remove them with your windows explorer, they will sync back from the cloud.

* A couple of fixes and image enhancements of the Statistical LOGistICAL screen.

* Bunch of minor back-end fixes.

LOGistICAL chat

* Created a live Chat on Discord, so you can talk with other logistical players. Learn from those experienced players and I will also try to be there a lot.

Build #338

This is fairly large build. It is the precursor to moving into a new structure of LOGistICAL games and add-ons.

This new structure links full, independent LOGistICAL games back to this original LOGistICAL game by sharing the same save game across them all. LOGistICAL: British Isles is the first of those games.

Here is a "simple" architectural diagram to show how LOGistICAL fits in with the Steam architecture.

Other things...

Background Textures

Background textures were turned off for a while as I dealt with lag and lockup issues. These issues have been mostly resolved with a new heart transplant, so the textures are back.
The new textures cover the entire map.

Since the textures were defaulted to "off" for new games for quite some time you may have to turn them back on. See Settings, Map, check on. The slider was to make the graphic fade but is now only working with the non-textured mapping.

LOGistICAL both Night and Day

Just so you know how hard you are working to fix these towns, LOGistICAL now moves between night and day. There is no advantage/disadvantage at this stage (coming soon), but you will see it in the background graphic.

Statistical LOGistICAL

Statistics are now available by clicking on the town trophy icon in the top panel, center screen.

Statistics are shown for all the modules that you own, including towns, roads, industries and a score.
You can drill into any module's statistics that have an asterisk (*). You can drill down through the regions to the towns.

Many stats may start as zero. To populate them load the DLC and then save your game (eg move a truck). You should only have to do this once.
On a slow computer, I found it easiest to just load a few modules, save, restart, check statistics and then load more.

Leaderboards will be added to the statistics soon.

Total Towns, Roads and Industries

These values are displayed when you mouse over your money in the top middle panel).
Since the "modular load" build of LOGistICAL, these values have not always been totally accurate, especially the roads and industries.
These have been fixed and are now totals of the statistics page, so if you can query them by drilling into them.
These values will only be fully accurate once you have loaded all the your game modules.

Dumping cargo

Once all towns are full, there maybe no where to deliver cargo from an industry that isn't fully upgraded.
You can now transport cargo to completed towns. There is no payment but the towns will gladly accept it.

Town Needs

Sometimes when there are town "needs" items that get duplicated. eg. a town may require bananas and fruit. Fruit also contains bananas. The collective groups will always show after the single items.
When this happens, you can't use bananas as a part of the fruit, as it will continue to be delivered into the banana line item.
Now the duplicate icons will no longer appear within those groups.

Towns decide where the incoming cargo goes with their own priority order.
If the town requires an item for their town needs and an industry within the town also requires that item, then the town "needs" get first priority.
The industry icon will now be displayed with a padlock over it until the town's needs have been completed.

New Tutorial

Flinders Island has been retired as a tutorial. It will soon appear as part of the Australia main map.

A new tutorial is now available and it is all about motorcycles.
This Isle of Man is known for its annual motorcycle races. The island is small and the bikes race around at crazy speeds.

Well, the Isle of Man wants motor bikes and lots of them. You are to build up all the industries that eventuate to a final product of producing motorcycles.

This tutorial is voluntary to all players that have passed the original tutorial.
There is no completion objective to allow you to move into the main games.
Just click the globe and click the country that you want to play and your initial truck(s) should appear with the first contract.

Achievements for the Isle of Man will only be available in the British Isles module.

Other things

Pause has been fixed and modified.
Pause now stops the trucks, industries production and town consumption.
While in pause you can still move trucks around the map and all the other general game play mechanics.
There is a pause icon in the center of the screen when the game is paused.

SPACE BAR is now a shortcut for pause.

The depot flag now sits over the town dot, so when zoomed out you can find it easier.

Iron ore in UK and BI modules has been hard to find, even for the most avid of players, so there is now a hint contract to help you find it.
Hint: If you are having trouble finding an industry within the map, try using an internet search. "Most" industries are placed where they should be.

A few minor fixes in the British Isles and Isle of Man modules.

Please Beta Test

As always, I would love you all to try the beta version out before it gets upgraded to Live (within the next 10 hours).

Beta uses the same save file as Live, so none of your game play will be lost.

I have set this beta to use the UK map, not the BI map, so it would be great to see if those playing UK find the new changes (eg Republic of Ireland and the Chanel Islands).

To play this new beta, right click on LOGistICAL in your Steam library, select Properties, select the "betas" tab, select "beta" from the drop down list. There is no password.

Thanks all for playing and hope you are all having fun doing so.

LOGistICAL: British Isles

Updated information on LOGistICAL: British Isles (L:BI).

Naming convention

"LOGistICAL" - the original game which will remain up to date as the others.
"LOGistICAL - moduleWithDash" - an add-on DLC that requires the original game to play.
"LOGistICAL: moduleWithColon" - an independent game that doesn't require the original game to play.

LOGistICAL: British Isles (L:BI)

L:BI is a new fully functioning LOGistICAL game that runs independent to the current LOGistICAL game and its DLCs.

L:BI contains a new tutorial. Much larger than the old one. This tutorial will replace the current tutorials on all games. Achievements for this tutorial will only be available in the L:BI game.

Beta testers have been test playing L:BI for a while now. The game is working well and going to plan. There are still a few issues that I am looking into.

LOGistICAL - United Kingdom (L-UK)

L:BI is the replacement game for L-UK. L-UK was implemented after the achievement cap so I was unable to add any achievements to it.
More details: http://steamcommunity.com/gid/103582791457096964/announcements/detail/1437063363257325464

L:BI and LOGistICAL share the same game save files. In theory that means that you can play any of the LOGistICAL games and modules from either install. Once L:BI is released all updates will occur simultaneously on both games.
I intend this to work for all upcoming modules, including LOGistICAL: Earth. ie They will be released as full games.

Steam has connected L:BI to L-UK. Therefore when L:BI is release (due date 8th Aug), all owners of L-UK should get L:BI in their library.

L:BI beta on LOGistICAL (335)

L:BI should theoretically be available and playable for all L-UK owners in the current LOGistICAL beta.
I encourage you to try it out, but start the game with a copy of your original as you can't go backwards, as there are additional towns, roads and contracts (not that you will likely need to).
Beta also shares the same game save file with the Live version, so no gameplay will be lost.

Oh, I forgot to mention... there are a bunch of updates in this build which includes the ability to deliver cargo to completed towns. This sorts the issue out for those that want to upgrade all industries to 100% but end up running out of places to deliver it.

To play beta, right click on LOGistICAL in your Steam library. Select properies, betas tab and select "beta" from the drop down list. There is no password required. Click close and the beta version should install. I should only be a small "difference" install from your current LOGistICAL installation.

Build #331

* Community page showing latest LOGistICAL news, screenshots and articles.

* Truck spikes to help identify what you were up to on that save game.

"LOGistICAL - United Kingdom" or "LOGistICAL: British Isles"?

Due to new Steam rule there is now a cap on the amount of achievements that a game can have (5,000). LOGistICAL can no longer create any more achievements for the main game and DLCs, but the ones that currently exist will not be affected.

Due to this, and also as it being part of a plan that I had already put into place, LOGistICAL is now going to provide complete games for various countries, states and/or areas instead of only DLCs.

All up, this should be a positive move for those that like to "complete" games, those that like to collect achievements and also those that just like to play the game.

The game mechanics won't actually change that much.

Unfortunately "LOGistICAL - United Kingdom" was released just as the new rule was put into place and was promoted without any achievements, and now no achievements can be created for it.

I have contacted Valve and they have offered to give all the current owners of "LOGistICAL - United Kingdom" DLC free ownership to the new "game" version of this module.

I will look after getting your save game and all achievements working in the new "game" module.

To avoid confusion, the new "game" version will be titled "LOGistICAL: British Isles" and will include England, Scotland, Wales, Northern and Southern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Bailiwick of Jersey and the Bailiwick of Guernsey.
Around an additional 350 towns (on top of L-UK) making it around 2300 towns total.

LOGistICAL: British Isles will also cost more than the current LOGistICAL - United Kingdom DLC by around 30-50%.

Release date for LOGistICAL: British Isles should be around 4th August if all goes as planned.

Go Back

LOGistICAL - United Kingdom

LOGistICAL expands to include the United Kingdom.

This module consists of 4 new countries (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), with over 1,800 new towns to complete.

The road system needs a lot of upgrading if you are to take your trucks all over these countries, so a lot of road repair deliveries will be required.

Plenty of industries to upgrade and new challenges.

This new module also brings a new build for the current LOGistICAL and all the DLCs addressing lag and freeze issues. Getting UK DLC is not required for this update.

Go Back

Build #329

A new build to address lag, fps and lock up issues on LOGistICAL.

Hopefully the game runs smoother for all players, not just those that were having issues to begin with.

The main focus was for the lockup when maximising or enlarging the game.
The secondary focus was to increase the frames per second (fps) from 20 fps to 30 fps.

I decided to allow the game to run 50% faster in all aspects, not just the graphics as it is much more comfortable and enjoyable.

There are a few issues I am still working on that I hope to complete over the next few builds. I noticed sometimes when starting a game there can be stutters in the animations when mousing over towns. These disappear after a few seconds. Also when running at 1080p there is sometimes stuttering when first dragging trucks onto towns. These also disappear after a few minutes of playing.

So overall it is looking better on my boxes and hopefully better on yours as well.

There have also been a few small additions as well.

The popup messages from when towns, industry or road repairs are complete now sits at the bottom right of the screen, once you have completed a bunch of towns (about 50).

Fixed a few flickering issues as well.

Re added the texture maps. Not on by default.

Changed green maps to steel-blue.

Added slider for general gray maps.

Fade out trucks and region titles when looking where to build industries, so you can see the dots.

A few Canada fixes.

This new version is currently on beta for anyone who would like to give it a test run. To be completely safe, use the copy game button next to the load button when you start your game.

LOGistICAL - Canada

Edit: Steam publishing is offline over the weekend, so Canada won't be available until 10th July 2017.

Canada is huge. 2nd biggest country on this planet.
Bigger than Australia but many parts not as accessible.
That being said, it will take a lot of travel to play this country.

Canada back story

Welcome to Canada. The second largest country on the planet.

Canada is cut in two after a long cold winter. East to west.

The road at Thunder Bay has been cut off and repairs are under way.
It has been said "There are only two seasons around here. Winter and construction. It is now construction season."

Only long large loaded trucks can get through (ie 40t laden). Smaller trucks can make it though without a load (unladen).

Follow the 40t road to find a truck depot and move the resources east to west and west to east via the storage facilities.

Money will be tight, but you may find some gems around the map.

Get out there and get these towns fixed.

Updates

Most of the updates for this latest patch are based around optimising speed and trying to reduce slowdowns.

The groundwork is done and more updates will follow after game stability.

LOGistICAL - Egypt

Egypt DLC for LOGistICAL is now available in the Steam store.

...
LOGistICAL grows into Aftica with the addition of Egypt.

Over 130 New towns to Complete. Lots more achievements.
Back Story
The annual flooding of the Nile has occurred (Wafaa El-Nil). There is a two weeks holiday for all... except you.

Supplies need to get from the main coastal towns and delivered upstream to the flood isolated towns. Fresh water is need from the Aswan dam to those affected downsteam.

Due to dense population the towns are huge and their needs are high. You may want to build up your industries before you do the towns.

You can build industries where possible and create "Storage Depots" where necessary.

The towns need you so get to work.

...
The towns in Egypt have dense populations. This means that most of the towns are very large. You may want to increase the size of the industries in order to be able to supply these towns/cities.

Egypt is an independent game that you can play at the same time as the main LOGistICAL game (and other add-ons). It has its own money, trucks and of course, challenges. So once installed and tutorial played, you can start playing this pack.

Go Back

Build #320

This is a big build with a major rewrite of the back-end in order to allow for single game loads (ie single DLCs).

So now you can load a single DLC straight from the globe without having to load the main game and all the other DLCs in your library.

There were a few glitches along the way and with the help of a great bunch of beta testers I managed to subdue the bugs (hopefully all of them).

The whole game should speed along at a nice pace now.

Languages

The first rollout of the language module is included in this build.

There are tutorials in Russian, German, Finnish and Spanish. Russian and Spanish continue into the Main modules contracts. Slowly more languages and parts of the game will get added.

Click the language flag or anywhere on the Notice form for the default English language.

Game Files

Generally you can just click load and it will load the top file, which is most likely the last game that you played.

The game file list has been updated to a file requester. You can now have a huge amount of tiles. Beware that the more files you have the longer it takes to cloud load.

Instead of the usual eight files, there is now a daily file save that has the number_reverseDate format (eg 00002_20170630.sav).

Each time the clock ticks over to a new day, a new file is saved.

The number is incremented if:
A file is loaded that is not of that format (eg, the old files)
A new game is started
A copy game is clicked

If you click a file with a lower than the top number, then that game is continued but will have the new date (if it is a different day), so a new file is created if a new day.

To assist any issues or corruptions that may occur along the way, a rolling 10 minute interval file is also saved with the format "backupSave_10-MinutesPastTheHour.sav", so every 10 minutes you get a new additional save that writes over the last 10 minutes save of that time period (hope you get what I mean there).
Anyway, in short, if you have a problem with a game you can go back a bit and redo it.

Clicking on any file in the list will show the number of trophies the file has and also the date and time it was saved (UTC date format).

Playing Modules

Once you have a game loaded/started, you are faced with the globe. On the globe you can click any of the DLCs that you own and it will load only that DLC (except if it has dependencies upon another, eg NZ).

You can play that modules as you always would have.

If you want to play a second module, then click on the globe and click another module that you own (green countries).

When that loads, you will have two flags in the bottom right corner. You can now click on those flags to jump between the modules. Both will continue to play.

There were a bunch of other minor fixes that also went into this build.

Again, a big thanks to those that participated in the beta trial. The feedback was excellent and I think we ended up with a reasonable improvement.

Let us know if you find any issues.

The new build will go live shortly (about an hour).

Go Back

Build #314

This beta build has changes to large sections of the backend of the game, so there are lots of changes and not many new additions.

If you would like to help and give this a test run it would be most appreciated. The more it is tested, the better it will be. It would be best to only test this if you have a lot of experience with LOGistICAL and know your game well. Often I don't get to test as much as I would like and then have to deal with the problems that arise which takes me away from creating more content and upgrades for the game. So again, your testing help would be most appreciated.

I have created a "beta testing" forum to isolate these posts. It is open to all at the moment, so please post all feedback into that forum or pm me.

Modular Load

"Modular Load" is a term I have given to this build where only the modules that you are wanting to play in the current session are loaded.

You will now find the globe loading and game loading super fast. There will now be a pause when you load your first and subsequent modules.

You start with the globe (except for a "new game"), click on a country (module) that you own and it will zoom into the map view of that country.
If you want to play another module/country at the same time, then click the globe in the bottom right hand corner and then click that country on the globe.

Some modules auto-load, eg NZ and the tutorial auto-load AU.

There shouldn't be a limit to the amount of modules you can load, but I think we might run into problems after the 5th. I will test and change if necessary.

A list of flags appear in the bottom right hand corner. Click on a flag and it should take you back to that module where you were last playing, with the currently selected truck and town.

What has changed

A lot has changed. In fact, so much has that it would be hard to list, but the interface hasn't change much at all.

All the data was already modularised, but the save game file wasn't. To be backward compatible things haven't changed a great deal in that area, but there are a lot more checks on load and save to ensure that data is not lost or overwritten.

Only the towns, roads, contracts, regions, states and metadata for that module are loaded. The trucks are all there, but only the ones for the loaded modules are visible.

I have had to rewrite a few areas including the regions, contracts popup, the map display, the hi-res map display and many others.

Summary

Once this build is stable, LOGistICAL will load super fast and also play faster. It will also enable the adding of new modules without bloating the game.
You should be able to sit comfortably and play half a dozen modules at once.

Things I still want to add to this build

Place the word "Loading" on the map when the module is loading.

There is a pause every so often if you drag the map around a lot. That one is driving me nuts as I can't quite figure out where it is happening.

How to

This build can be accessed via the Steam "beta" program.

You should back up your save files before you do this.
They are most likely in the default directory of "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\
<Your Steam ID> \573060\remote".
When you start the game, you should also create a second copy of the game you wish to play with. That is done by the copy icon to the right of the game file. Try to keep the original save game file prior to this update, so you can always go backwards and check things. I have about 5 simultaneous spawns from the original.

To access the build, right click LOGistICAL in the Steam library, select properties, select the betas tab and select "Modular Load beta" from the drop down list. If "Modular Load beta" is not in the list you will have to restart Steam first.

Thanks for giving this a go.

Build #312

This build is the second part implementation of the globe. Most of it is background that you won't see.

Things that you will see include:

* Roads no longer have two visuals (mouse up or down). These are combined into a single unified view.
- Colour represents speed of the road ranging from red, through yellow and to green for the fastest. There is still bright red for broken.
- Size is for the maximum size of any vehicle that can travel on it. The thicker the road the bigger the truck that can travel on it. The centre line of the road also changes from black to blue for the larger sizes.

* "Disappearing Roads" bug has been found and fixed. This was an intermittent bug that was hard to reproduce. To reproduce it you had to mouse over a truck (it enlarges), move the mouse to the very left or right, mouse down to drag the truck and then zoom the map. Phew, that took a couple of days just to find and about 30 seconds to fix.

* Mouse over Australia in globe now fixed. It used to say Tutorial.

* Tutorial added to globe.

* Set maximum game speed per module. In dense areas like Europe the maximum is 8x, while other less dense places like Australia are 16x.

* Sale of truck money now goes back to wallet. Did you know in the old days you couldn't sell trucks, just delete them. Now you may know how that feels.

* Cancellation of trucks loads now penalises the correct wallet.

* Change the quarantine blinking to use the universal blink function within the game to stop some blinking from being too fast.

* Turn off region areas of map dots at different zoom levels to process map faster. (Will soon be per town dependent on size and isolation).

* Working on language module to display text in different languages.

* Less towns visible in Australia. These have been changed to dots at different zoom factors.

* Quieter default sound effects

* No default music

* Preparation for the LOGistICAL - Germany DLC about to be released.

This beta will go live in around 4 hours.

LOGistICAL grows in Europe with the addition of Germany.

Over 2600 New towns to Complete. Tons of achievements.

Back Story

A Large Chemical Spill in the Stuttgart region has created chaos. A full quarantine of ALL products in and out of the Stuttgart region has been put into place. Over 100 towns are within the affected zone. We can get you into the area so you can fix the towns within the zone, and you can move your empty trucks in and out. Small industries have been setup for each type of product within the zone.

It is up to you to build industries outside the zone to deliver to the rest of the country.

If you can get the industries inside the zone to a level 3 then you can build similar industries throughout the rest of Germany, depending on the available natural resources and any local government restrictions.

The towns need you so get to work.

...
Germany is an independent game that you can play at the same time as the main LOGistICAL game (and other add-ons). It has its own money, trucks and of course, challenges. So once installed and tutorial played, you can start playing this pack.

Build #310 Update

A few changes plus also getting ready for Hawaii DLC.

* Added a difficulty level to each of the modules. These are viewed by mouse-over a country on the globe.
Levels are Beginner, Easy, Medium, Hard, Extreme.
There are often two values as each module can take you from one extreme to the other.

* Removed the green glow of the save. You can still see when the save last saved by looking at the date and time. It will auto-save every 10 seconds if you do anything down to moving a truck or arrive at a destination, etc within that 10 seconds.

* Updated the scoring system. Found that the multiplier for the number of resources required for doing a towns escalated the score into the billions. It is now a little less.

* Setting the ground for scores to be on a leaderboards. Are you ready for it?
This will show how you managed your trucks for the duration of a modules.

Better scores when:
delivering less tonnes to the town (ie beating consumption).
the size of the town (population)
the difficulty level of the town (the town multiplier)
the number of resource lines needed
using small and less trucks to do it with
the play efficiency

All this and the formula is view-able by clicking on the score within a finished town's popup.

LOGistICAL - Hawaii

Hawaii DLC for LOGistICAL is now available in the Steam store.

Get 30% off the Hawaii DLC for the first week. You can also get an additional 15% off if you purchase it though a bundle.

The Hawaii DLC starts out nice and easy and is great for the beginner as industries slowly unfold.

Get boats to link to the other islands. Only small 8t trucks can fit on the boats.

There are plenty of towns to do from easy to medium level. Upgrade all the industries for extra achievements.

Hawaii pack can be played independently to the other LOGistICAL packs. Once you have completed the tutorial you can start playing Hawaii. You can play Hawaii at the same time as playing Australia or any other DLC (if you haven't already completed them).

You start with your own new bank account, a bit of cash and a supplied vehicle. You do the rest.

There are lots of easy towns to complete and some tougher ones, for those that like that extra challenge.

Relax, enjoy and play away.
